How to Resolve Adobe CS4 Installation Error?

Error 1704 or 1500 when installing or removing Adobe Creative Suite 4 and Point Products (Windows)

Issue



When you install or remove an Adobe Creative Suite 4 product, you receive a Windows error message concerning suspended, incomplete or interrupted installation. Possible error messages include the following:



"Error 1704. An installation of [Adobe Creative Suite 4 product] is currently suspended."

"Error 1500. Another installation is already in progress. Complete that install before proceeding with this installation."

Reason




Microsoft Windows installer may be interrupted because of power outage, premature system shutdown, or system issue. You may need to clear out certain registry keys in order to proceed with the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installation.



Solution



Do one or more of the following solutions:


Solution 1: Remove any in-progress installations.

Disclaimer: This procedure involves editing the Windows registry. Adobe doesn't provide support for editing the registry, which contains critical system and application information. Make sure to back up the registry before editing it. For more information about the registry, see the Windows documentation or contact Microsoft.



Launch Windows Registry Editor.

On Windows XP

Choose Start > Run, and type regedit in the Open text box; click OK.



On Windows Vista

Choose Start then type regedit in the Search box and press return.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Inprogress.

If the Inprogress key exists, then delete it.

Attempt the Adobe Creative Suite 4 product installation again.

Solution 2: Unregister and then reregister the Windows Installer Service.

Unregister the Windows Installer Service.

On Windows XP

Choose Start > Run.

Type msiexec /unreg and click OK.

On Windows Vista

Choose Start, type msiexec /unreg in the Search field and press Enter.

Register the Windows Installer Service.

On Windows XP

Choose Start > Run.

Type msiexec /regserver and click OK.

On Windows Vista

Choose Start, type msiexec /regserver in the Search field and press Enter.

Attempt the Adobe Creative Suite 3 product installation again.

Transforming Pages in Indesign CS5

I recently read that with CS5 you can transform pages just like you can transform objects on pages. Scale, Rotate, Free Transform, and Shear all work on pages now. It isn’t obvious at first how to do this, but one method that works is to transform an object and then switch to the Page tool, select a page, and choose Transform Again (or Transform Sequence Again) from the Object menu.
Here’s a document with pages rotated in 10 degree increments.

Here’s one with sheared pages.

Here are some with multiple transformations applied.

If you place an object after transforming the page, the object appears normal in the document window. But in the Pages panel, you can see what your output will look like in print, PDF, etc. Click the image below for a close up.

You can also see the different behavior of master page items and local items.

Now you might think at least some of this is buggy behavior, but no. It is all documented in the CS5 scripting guide. This is a feature. A weird feature, but a feature nonetheless.

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
XML Graphics for the Web

SVG is a language for describing two-dimensional graphics and graphical applications in XML. SVG 1.1 is a W3C Recommendation and is the most recent version of the full specification. SVG Tiny 1.2 is a W3C Recommendation, and targets mobile devices. There are various SVG modules under development which will extend previous versions of the specification, and which will serve as the core of future SVG developments.

The SVG Working Group is currently working in parallel on a set of modules, for extending prior specifications, and a new specification, SVG 2.0, which will combine those modules with the rest of the SVG framework to work across the full range of devices and platforms.

Older specifications include SVG 1.0 and the SVG Mobile Profiles: SVG Basic and SVG Tiny which were targeted to resource-limited devices and are part of the 3GPP platform for third generation mobile phones.

SVG Print is a set of guidelines to produce final-form documents in XML suitable for archiving and printing.


 Here is an overview of the current features:

    * management of title and description.
    * insertion of image, text and foreignObject.
    * basic shapes: square, diamond, triangle, circle...
    * lines, polygons, polylines and paths.
    * simple style: color, stroke width and opacity.
    * layers management: group, levels, alignment...
    * transformations: rotation, translation, scaling...

SVG has been in development since 1999 by a group of companies within the W3C after the competing standards Precision Graphics Markup Language (PGML) – developed from Adobe's PostScript – and Vector Markup Language (VML) – developed from Microsoft's RTF – were submitted to W3C in 1998. SVG drew on experience from the designs of both those formats.

SVG allows three types of graphic objects:

    * Vector graphics
    * Raster graphics
    * Text

Graphical objects can be grouped, styled, transformed, and composited into previously rendered objects. SVG does not directly support z-indices that separate drawing order from document order for overlapping objects, unlike some other vector markup languages like VML. Text can be in any XML namespace suitable to the application, which enhances search ability and accessibility of the SVG graphics. The feature set includes nested transformations, clipping paths, alpha masks, filter effects, template objects and extensibility.

Printing

While being primarily designated as a vector graphics markup language, the specification is also designed with the basic capabilities of a page description language (PDL), like Adobe's PDF. It contains provisions for rich graphics, and is also compatible with CSS for styling purposes. It is unlike XHTML and XSL-FO, whose primary purpose is communication of content, not presentation, and so which specify objects to be displayed but not where to place such objects. Conversely SVG is an ideal PDL for print-orientated uses, as it contains all the functionality required to place each glyph and image in a chosen location on the final page. Intellectual capital, in one form or another, is implicated in recent economic, managerial, technological, and sociological developments in a manner previously unknown and largely unforeseen?

Intellectual capital is human tacit knowledge ? Largely intangible ? However, there must be tangible ways to harness and manage this knowledge. Intellectual capital should not be looked at as intellectual property, though. Examples of intellectual property are copyrights, patents and design rights. "Until recently, while people spend a good deal of time and space paying lip service to the concept, only a few have really tried to define it, and even fewer seem to have placed much value on it." Ultimately, intellectual capital is "the pursuit of effective use of knowledge as opposed to information"
